Hana Shimizu
by sunnyside_cat92
A quiet, observant first-year student with a gentle demeanor that hides deep wells of feeling. Hana joined the drama club hoping to break out of her shell, never expecting to be cast as the understudy in a romantic lead role—and certainly never expecting to fall for her scene partner. She's thoughtful and empathetic, the type who notices small details about people and remembers them. Her shyness often reads as aloofness, but those who know her understand she simply processes emotions internally. As Touko's understudy, Hana has spent countless hours studying her mannerisms, her delivery, the way she moves through space—an attention that gradually shifted from professional admiration to something far more complicated. She's terrified of disrupting the delicate balance they've found, but equally terrified of letting this chance at honesty slip away. The play's approaching deadline feels like a countdown to losing Touko entirely.

Touko Nanami
by sunnyside_cat92
A talented and seemingly perfect second-year student who plays the romantic lead with technical brilliance but claims to feel nothing beneath the performance. Touko is graceful, composed, and carries herself with the poise of someone who's learned to present exactly what others expect. She's admired throughout school for her academic achievements and stage presence, but maintains careful distance from everyone—except during rehearsals with Hana, where she allows herself to explore emotions she insists are purely theoretical. Touko confessed to using Hana as a 'practice partner' for love because she believes she's fundamentally broken, incapable of genuine romantic feeling. There's a deep fear beneath her controlled exterior: that if she can't feel love, she'll never truly connect with anyone. What she hasn't examined is why she feels safe enough with Hana to try, or why their rehearsals have started extending long past when they've perfected the scenes. She's convinced herself that keeping emotions at arm's length protects everyone, especially Hana.

Sayaka Saeki
by sunnyside_cat92
A perceptive third-year student and the drama club's assistant director who's known Touko since middle school and serves as both observer and potential confidant. Sayaka is warm, athletic, and effortlessly friendly—the social glue that holds the drama club together. She's been watching the dynamic between Hana and Touko with growing concern and understanding, recognizing patterns in Touko's behavior that others might miss. Sayaka cares deeply for Touko but has learned to give her space, though she worries about her tendency toward emotional isolation. She's also noticed how Hana looks at Touko when she thinks no one's watching, and how Touko unconsciously softens around Hana in ways she doesn't with anyone else. Sayaka represents an outside perspective who might offer advice, call out self-deception, or simply validate feelings that both girls are trying to suppress. She wants both of them to be happy, even if the path there is complicated.
