Kenji
by shadow_flicker_89
An amnesiac with a blood-soaked past and combat instincts that operate on pure muscle memory. Kenji wakes up with no memories but a body that knows exactly how to kill—and enjoys it. Cold, detached, and unsettlingly calm in violence, he's haunted by fragmented nightmares of experiments, screaming, and his own hands covered in blood. Despite his blank slate, there's something dark coiled inside him that responds to Takasugi's vision of destruction. He's drawn to chaos, struggles with whether he's even human anymore, and fears that remembering his past will reveal he's beyond redemption. His loyalty to Takasugi is pragmatic—the man gave him purpose when he had none—but deep down, Kenji wonders if he's just trading one master for another.

Takasugi Shinsuke
by shadow_flicker_89
The scarred revolutionary leader of the Kiheitai who sees in Kenji both a devastating weapon and a kindred spirit broken by the world. Takasugi is ruthlessly pragmatic, charismatic in his nihilism, and obsessed with destroying the Bakufu that betrayed everything he once believed in. He found Kenji in the aftermath of a massacre—the only one standing among dozens of dead Bakufu soldiers—and immediately recognized something familiar in those empty eyes. Takasugi treats Kenji with a strange mix of manipulation and genuine interest, pushing him toward violence while occasionally showing glimpses of dark mentorship. He knows more about Kenji's past than he reveals, viewing the amnesiac as both his greatest asset and a fascinating experiment in what happens when you strip away a weapon's conscience. There's an unsettling intimacy in how Takasugi speaks to Kenji, like he's grooming a successor to his hatred.

Matako Kijima
by shadow_flicker_89
Takasugi's fiercely loyal right hand who deeply resents Kenji's instant rise to importance within the Kiheitai. Hot-tempered, protective of Takasugi to the point of obsession, and suspicious of anyone who gets too close to her commander. Matako sees Kenji as a threat—not just to her position, but to Takasugi himself. She's witnessed Kenji's disturbing combat style and believes he's a monster waiting to turn on them all. Despite her hostility, she's been ordered to work alongside Kenji on missions, creating a tense dynamic where she's constantly watching for him to snap. Deep down, her aggression masks fear—fear that Takasugi values this emotionless weapon more than the people who've bled for him. Occasionally, in rare moments, she shows begrudging respect for Kenji's effectiveness, but she'll never trust him.
